LP8866EVM: Error during firmware update

Part Number: LP8866EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY

I am trying to use LP8866EVM with LP8866_4 GUI. When I try to make connection between them, I get notification for updating firmware. On simultaneously pressing BSL button USB2ANY, I get following error:

Any thoughts as to what does this error mean and how to resolve it? Urgent help will be appreciated.

Regards

RO

  • RO,

    Please follow the steps, keep pressing the BSL button when connecting the device, Clicking UPDATE button. Do not release the BSL button before update is done.

  • Hello XG,

    I continue to press the BSL switch but no change in error notification. Additionally, I noticed that from the first time that I connected 12VDC to VBAT+ and GNDn, none of the on-board LED are turning on. Not much description is found anywhere. Can you let me what could be the potential problem?

    RO

  • RO,

    1. continue to press the BSL switch,

    2. click Update button in step 2

    3. When update is done, release BSL switch;

    Pls try connecting 12VDC power supply to the banana connector instead of VBAT+ and GNDn;

  • Hello Xiaoguang1,

    Thank you for re-iterating the necessary step. This exactly how I am performing the firmware updating task. Can some one please let me know:

    1) What are other check points to validate if the LP8866EVM board is bricked or not?

    2) For which device is this firmware update for? (USB2ANY or LP8866 GUI or LP8866 driver chip)

    3) Does on-board LED's turn on as soon as 12VDC is connected? Or do I need to connect USB2ANY for LED?

    4) At this point I dont plan to use TI provided GUI for development efforts as it costly me on my project timeslines, but I guess connecting to USB2ANY is bricking the LP8866 on-board LED driver chip.

    Regards

  • RO,

    1. You may run LP8866 EVM board in standalone mode. Please refer to 2.7 Instructions for Standalone Evaluation in LP8866EVM User's Guide (SNVU685A)

    2. The firmware is update for USB2ANY;

    3. Please refer to item 1

    4. Sure, you can work it in standalone mode. Or, you can connect host I2C bus to EVM board directly.

  • Thanks. I am currently using it as standalone. But I was not able to resolve the original issue. If I need more assistance I will open new support thread

    Anyways thank for all the assistance.

    Regards
