BQ24616: Battery unable to charge

Hi Experts,

Our customer designed a custom board referencing the EVM schematic however, the resulting board does not charge the 8.4V 2 Cells battery.

Here is the customer schematic:

Can you please explain more about your setup? What is the input voltage, what is the battery voltage, what is the TS voltage, what are the STATx and PG/ LEDs doing?

Hi Mike,

Here is some information: The circuit is supplied by 12V/2A power. PG LED is working fine. The Statx pins are logic high now(Vref_3V3).

Battery voltage is 7.3V now. It can reach upto 8.4V max. Battery is of 10000mAH. Voltage level at TS pin is 2.46V.

Marvin,

A TS voltage of 2.46 V is above the VT1 threshold indicating a cold battery. Please bias the TS voltage appropriately to begin charging. See Section 8.3.18 of the datasheet.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the support. The customer is now able to charge the battery. However, after making the 2.1V Voltage level on TS Pin, now the customer's battery status is constantly showing fully charged.

In addition, the customer was able to charge a battery of single-cell (4.2V) but was not able to charge a double-cell battery (8.4).

Can you help solve this?

Hi Mike,

Stat LED that's showing charging done is ON.

Power good LED is ON. STAT LED thats showing charge in process if OFF.

The battery voltage is 7.2. The maximum voltage is 8.4V for the battery they are using right now.

Please tell me which actual STATx pin is illuminated. What is the VFB voltage when the battery voltage is 7.2V? What is the voltage across the charge current sense resistor?
