TPS63070: Cannot simulate on WEBENCH

Part Number: TPS63070
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63060

Hello TI experts,

my customer wants to use TPS63070 for their new product.

the conditions of customer are as below;

input : 2.7V ~ 12V

output : 5V/1A or 6V/1A

I confirmed that 5V/1A is working well on WEBENCH using TPS63070, but 6V/1A is now working because junction temperature is too high.

(it was simulated up to 5.5V/1A, junction temperature was 124.751 degree at that time. please see the design report below.)

1602.WBDesign75 (1).pdf

so I want to asking you that I really cannot use TPS63070 under the condition. (input:2.7V~12V / output 6V/1A)

for your information // they used TPS63060 before, it was fine under those 2 conditions.

please check this issue. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi  Chase,

that is mostly depend on customer's system, such as PCB layout, highest ambient temperature and air convection strength.

can customer do a thermal simulation before formal design?

    Regards

    Tao

  • Dear Tao,

    Thank you for your support.

first, they use this end device in normal temperature. (about 25 degree, indoor case) not extremely hot temperature.

You mean that my customer can use TPS63070 even WEBENCH cannot simulate that condition? (this is really important)

If it also depends on the layout, please provide a most optimal case. I will give it to my customer and draw a layout as same as it.

And I think it is not easy that customer add a thermal solution for their device.

Can we simulate TPS63060 (the device that my customer used previously)? then we can check the junction temperature, and can predict a possibility of using TPS63070.

    Best regards,

    Chase

  • Hi  Chase,

we are not able to do a thermal  simulation to check.

but  accoring the efficiency performance, TPS63070 should a little better than TPS63060 when VIn=2.7V.

so i think it should be ok for TPS63070, unfortunatly, we are not able to do some bench tests to confirm for COVID and we will work at home in this week.

    Regards
