TPS784-Q1: what is difference between using TPS78412 and TPS78401 FB tie to Vout?

Part Number: TPS784-Q1

what is difference between using TPS78412 and TPS78401 FB tie to Vout? it looks like both can do 1.2V output and same schematics.

  • Hello Ito-San,

TPS78412 refers to fixed 1.2V Output version, whereas TPS78401 refers to an adjustable Output voltage version of the device. Both versions are capable of producing VOUT = 1.2V, but would require different schematics since the pinout of both these versions are different. The adjustable version has an FB pin (which is replaced by a 'NC' pin in the fixed output version) and requires a pair resistors connected between OUT, FB and GND pins to generate VOUT = 1.2V. This is described in section 8.1.3 of the datasheet. Thanks!

  • hi Srikanth

thank you for your answer.  i thought just i can connect the FB directly to Vout for 1.2V since FB is 1.2V. Do you still need bottom resistor? if so what is recommended value for bottom resistor?

  • Hello Ito-San,

You are correct, in the adjustable version you may simply connect FB to OUT to get 1.2V of VOUT. You do not need the bottom resistor. For the fixed out version you do not need to make this connection. Thanks!
