LM74700-Q1: Enable pin

Part Number: LM74700-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM74800-Q1

Hi Team,
The LM74700 has an EN pin, which is described in the datasheet to turn off the LM74700 and the N-mos gate, but the body diode of the N-mos is still turned on, and the Vout power supply of the subsequent stage will not be turned off.
So this EN Pin cannot be used to turn off the power supply of the power stage. Is this understanding correct?

In addition, if this is understood, what kind of scenarios will this EN pin be used in?

  • Hi,

    1. LM74700-Q1 is a reverse current protection controller which provides protection again reverse current while Vin and Vout are always connected through the FET body diode. Therefore forward current can flow between Vin and Vout even when EN is OFF.
    2. EN pin is used to put the device in sleep mode when not in use. This lowers the required Iq. Vin and EN can be connected together so that the device is performing reverse protection whenever Vin is present.
    3. If Vin and Vout need to be disconnected while protecting against reverse current and reverse voltage, please look into back to back FET based controllers such as LM74800-Q1

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks and best regards
