PTN78060W: Changing output voltage of PTN78060W

Part Number: PTN78060W

Hello,

I would like to change the output voltage of this device by utilizing a handful of properly spec'd resistors and a rotary switch, to change the resistance along the path between the ADJUST pin and GND. Is this a suitable method for this device or should I be looking at more continuous methods of changing the ADJUST resistance?

Thank you

  • Hello,

One possible concern would be if there is a momentary open when the rotary switch is switched. This could result in the output voltage jumping every time the rotary was turned. If this is not acceptable then I would look into a potentiometer instead.

Another thing to consider is that the output capacitance needs to be sufficient for the entire output voltage range.

  • Hi Harrison,

Thank you for your input. I'm also considering a digipot, it'll just come down to pricing and ease of integration. I agree with the open circuit concern. My issue with mechanical pots is I can't get them in specific ranges that match the output voltage I need, and I can't get them in the tolerances this device requires.

I'll see what I can figure out, thanks again.
