TPS2420: Controlling EN pin

Part Number: TPS2420

Hi, I'm using the TPS2420 to replace another unavailable e-fuse part and want to control the EN pin with minimal circuit changes. The TPS2420 datasheet states the EN pin is clamped to ground with a 7 V zener. Is it acceptable to drive any current into this zener (100 uA would be enough) from an external pull-up to 12V so we can use an ordinary open-collector output to enable the TPS2420? It seems like that would violate the 6 V abs max rating for EN, but perhaps it's acceptable at low current? This would avoid the need to add an extra low-leakage MOSFET to our BoM just to drive the EN pin.
