BQ24171: Battery charging issue

Part Number: BQ24171

Hi,

please see the problem with BQ24171RGYT

we are using to recharge Li-Ion Battery of capacity 11.V(3S3P) and 6.6AH.

Adapter Power is 12.6V,current is 1.5A

Battery needs to be charged with CV at current rate of 1A.

Calculation is done as per the above ratings ,please see attached schematic for the same.

VACSET is set at 0.3V,OVPSET is set at 1V,VISET is set at 0.2V

our problem is Battery side SW (pin no 24 in the IC) is showing short to GND, even we have kept fast switching Diode for SW pin

please suggest are we doing any wrong ?

  • Hi,

We are closed Friday in observance of holiday. We expect to get back to you by the next Tuesday.

  • Hi Sumanth,

It looks like the schematic was designed not following the design guideline, such as the PVCC cap and REGN cap. Please refer the BQ2417x Schematic Review for details.

    • Connect at least 10-µF ceramic capacitor from PVCC to PGND and place it as close as possible to IC.
    • Connect a 1-μF ceramic capacitor from REGN to PGND pin, close to the IC.
    • The bead L3 for GND was not recommended.
    • What is the purpose of R95? The original design Rac should be in the path from 12V Input to System to sense the input current.

If the SW is short to GND, you can try to disconnect the L4 on your board and check it again. If the short still presents, then the IC is damaged if D13 has no soldering bridge issue.

    Regards,

    Eric
