LM5116: LM5116 low side Gate drive failed

Hi TI Experts,

I designed a DC-DC converter using LM5116 with output voltage 13.5V. I started testing the board with the LM5116 EVM Values. board worked well with 30V input and loaded up to 4A successfully.

When i applied 50V input in the next step the Low side gate driver failed. What could be the possible reasons for that?

Hello Aneesh

I guess there was an overshoot at the input of your EVM when you change the input voltage. BVds of the low-side MOSFET is 60V. If any overshoot more than 10V, it can damage the FET.

Hi Eric ,

I forgot to tell you that i have used IPP076N15N5 MOSFET in my circuit which is 150V rated. Could you please tell me the possible reason for low side gate driver failure?.

Hello Aneesh

Please try other MOSFET with smaller plateau voltage and less Qg, similar with original MOSFET.
