TPS7A7200-EP: Operating Temperature Question

Part Number: TPS7A7200-EP

Hi team,

We're considering using the TPS7A7200QRGWREP in place of the TPS7A7200RGWT due to supply constraints. Whilst the two part are identical in almost all facets the only significant difference I see is the Minimum Junction and storage temperature. TPS7A7200QRGWREP has a Junction temperature range of -40°C toe 150°C compared to the TPS7A7200RGWT, which has a junction temperature range of -55°C to 160°C.

  1. What is  the difference between Operating virtual junction temperature and operating temperature?
  2. Does this have any effects on how the devices are operated?
  3. If the operating temperature for the two regulators is the same why is the storage and operating temperature defined in the Absolute Maximum Rating table of the datasheet different?

Thank you.

  • Hello,

For this device, operating temperature and the Operating junction temperature (TJ) are used synonymously and to refer to the same thing. Since the abs max TJ ratings for the two devices are different, please ensure that the application does not violate these ratings. The EP and Non- EP versions typically are built of different materials and/or tested differently and therefore could have different ratings. Thanks!

    Regards,
