TPS62933: peak current mode advantange

Part Number: TPS62933

Hi Team,

I was wondering why TPS62933 is designed to be peak current mode instead of DCAP3,

Is there a target  application that need the advantage of peak current mode?  does this mean the transient will be worse than other COT product?

would you elaborate it for me ,thanks

  • Hi Fred

Hummingbird targets the appliance and Multimedia and Industrial applications. The EMI requirement is strict for these customers. The peak current mode has fixed clock, it can apply the spread spectrum tech. As a result, the EMI performance is good.

Regarding the transient performance, DCPA shows better performance. If the requirement of the transient performance is strict, Cff should be added when using device with PCM topology.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi

I see, based on what you knew,

does monitor cares about EMI a lot?

since humming bird is also target for monitor application

  • Hi Fred

As far as I see, the monitor does not care that much about EMI. But the customer cares the thermal performance and cost. Hummingbird has low Rdson and high switching slew rate, as a result, the efficiency can be high and have a good thermal performance.

    Hope this helps.
