BQ27Z561-R1: Flash reprogram

Part Number: BQ27Z561-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27Z561, BQSTUDIO

Dear expert,

Sometimes, I cannot connect with BQ27Z561 EVM. And after I manually select BQ27Z561 target in BQstudio and reprogram EVM with *.srec. The EVM back to normal again.

I guess the reason might be EVM flash is erased due to some ESD accident.

Now customer tested 10 pcs board and find 2 BQ27Z561 I2C run OK at the beginning and has no any I2C response after some days even after power cycle.  (NO ACK signal for I2C access)

We also tried to access 0x16 I2C address to see whether BQ27Z561 stuck at ROM mode. But it is not.

Each pin resistance is normal compared with good silicon.

I doubt these two silicon flash might be erased due to some ESD accident like my EVM.

The questions are:

1. Have you ever heard about this kind of flash lose issue?

2. Which pin of BQ27Z561 is sensitive for this? We want to take measurement to capture some pins but need your guidance.

3. If customer want to reprogram flash, can they do it in their system and how?

Thanks

  • Hello Ryan,

Did you seal the bq27z561? This will lock the flash from erase by external commands. ESD will damage the entire IC, not just flash. If you think there was ESD damage, then please take precautions during handling. There is no recovery possible from ESD damage.
