TLV62568A: control method

Part Number: TLV62568A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3150, TPS62A01A, TPS62A01

Hi team,

My customer has questions about the control method of TLV62568A (forced PWM). Could you help me?

  1. Is it kind of a hysteresis control rather than current mode?
  2. Or is it Constant-ON-Time (COT) control? According to the statement below, does it mean the off time is set for low-side FET, in other words the on time of high-side FET is set?
  3. If it's COT, is it similar control as LM3150?

Regards,
Kazuto

  • Hi Kazuto,

TLV62568A operates with a peak current mode control with an adaptive off-time technology.  The peak current mode control detects the peak current of the HS-FET and terminates the cycle when the current reaches the peak threshold. So, it decides the ON-time of the HS-FET. Adaptive off-time technology automatically calculates the OFF-time of HS-FET (or ON-time of LS-FET) based on the Vin and Vout levels.

Let me know if this answers your question.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Sneha,

I understand TLV62568A operates constant switching frequency, ton + toff is always constant, is that correct?

If so, I think HS-FET off-time is eventually decided by on-time as a result of peak-current. In this case, how Adaptive off-time affect HS-FET off-time?

  • Hi Kazuto,

The typical switching frequency of TLV62568A is 1.5MHz. But as you can see in the datasheet, switching frequency varies slighly depending on the Vin, Vout and Load.

The adaptive off time control is deisgned in such a way that it will sense the Vin and Vout and based on those values, it adjusts the off-time and will try to keep the switching frequency relatively constant.

May I know about the customer's application? Is this a new design? If yes, Can we promote our new device TPS62A01/TPS62A01A to them?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Sneha,

Thanks for your explanation. You mentioned "Adaptive off-time technology automatically calculates the OFF-time of HS-FET (or ON-time of LS-FET) ", but the datasheet says different. Which one is true?
