LM7480-Q1: Question for LM74800-Q1 with Parallel MOSFET

Hi Team,

Our customer is designing a high input current circuit for automotive application, and as they need one ideal diode controller like LM74800-Q1, but they want to check if we can use it with up to 8 parallel MOSFETs to support the high current(~30A maximum) as below picture shown. Can you help to check if we can support this design?

    Yes, LM74800-Q1 can drive multiple FETs in parallel. In case the device can be subjected to AC superimposed (ACS) signal, we need to check if the Ideal Diode is able to rectify the AC  signal.  This depends on the frequency of the AC signal which needs to be rectified,  Qg of the parallel FETs and the charge pump current capability of the Ideal diode controller. 

    LM74720-Q1 has integrated boost converter based gate drive capability which makes it suitable for rectifying 200 kHz  ACS while driving multiple FETs in parallel.

    By the way, why do you need 8 parallel FETs for 30A maximum current ?

    Got it, thanks for the reply. Customer's use case is for a large LCD panel backlight with 48V/3A output boosted from minimum 8V car battery input, so the input current will be very large which can be up to 30A peak.
