I am using a c8051 to detect charger input voltage, but I have almost 3v leaking back from battery to VCC. Any help would be appreciated. My only solutions is to select a P-Channel FET to act as a on/off switch. Also anybody have a favorite P-Channel FET surface mount for this job?

    Can you provide a schematic or more information on the test set up? I.e. how and where is the c8051 connected to the circuit, what voltage is at the battery etc?

  • The C8051 senses the charge input voltage, provided by an external 5v supply. I am using 2 - 100k ohm voltage divider, so that I sense 1/2 the voltage. The battery is a Li-Ion polymer battery so the voltage on the output of the charger circuit is a maximum of 4.2VDC and as low as 3.3VDC.

    I think this is the basic schematic of the battery charger and connections. I think the problem is that the internal pass MOSFET has its protection diode bias on when only the battery is connected.

  • Hi Randy,

    I received tested the BQ24010 EVM in our lab. However, I do not observe this leakage voltage you are seeing with your system set up. I also measured to verify it was below the data sheet max.

    Try removing the R81 resistor and measuring your VCC voltage then. This will clarify if the leakage is in fact coming from the charger or possibly coming from the C8051 device.

    Also, did you see this problem on any other boards?

  • Upon further investigation and using some of your advice. I have determined that the C8051 is apply a voltage to my voltage divider and it is not coming from the charger. I am not sure how to resolve this problem. I think I will use the Power Good signal to see if the VCC voltage has been applied. Thanks for your help.
