LM2735: Supply Current at 12V output

Part Number: LM2735
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV61048,

Hello Team,

Please help to provide the maximum allowable output current at 12V output voltage and efficiency graph/table.

Design parameters:

Boost Converter mode

Vin = 5V

Vout = 12V @ 500 mA

Can Part: LM2735XMF/NOPB be used for these required design parameters?

Can you also suggest the pin to pin replacement of this part with around 750mA output current capability? Please advice.

Thank You,

Kaushal

  • Hi Kaushal,

    Suggest use LM2735Y for this 5Vin, 12V@500mA application to increase the efficiency. In the datasheet, you can find the efficiency graph on page 8.

    For 750mA output current application, suggest consider TLV61048.

  • Hi Zack,

    Thanks for quick response.

    Can you please confirm on this graphs?

    1. This graph in the datasheet is limited up-to 350 mA output current. But we require 500 mA output at 12V voltage.

    2. Output load current graph shows around up-to 600mA output current at 5V input and 12V output.

    By considering these two different graphs, can you please confirm what is the maximum allowable output current at 12V output voltage and 5V input voltage?

    Thank You,

    Kaushal

  • Hi Kaushal,

    Assume the efficiency is 85% when Vin =5V, Vout=12V, Iout=500mA, the input current is 12V*0.5A/0.85/5V=1.4A. With a proper selected inductance and inductor current ripple is 30%, so inductor peak current is 1.4A*1.15=1.6A.

    LM2735 switch current limit minimum spec is 2.1A, which means it could support 500mA load current application.

    To achieve higher efficiency and better thermal performance, recommend using LM2735Y because its switching frequency is 520kHz.

    For 750mA load current, TLV61048 has better efficiency result and thermal performance.
