TPS7A02: What is the actual difference this and the TPS7A03?

Part Number: TPS7A02
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A03,

The datasheets for the TPS7A02 and TPS7A03 parts are very similar. The -02 parts consume less quiescent current (25nA vs 200nA), it's transient performance is a little worse, it cost more. I don't really need the lower current performance but I'll take it if there are no downsides.

Is the real difference just that you pay more for the lower quiescent current of the -02? I'm leaning toward the -03 because I feel it will create a stiffer power rail but maybe that's not true.

Thanks,

Ben

  • Hi Ben,

Yes the only difference is the Iq. The higher Iq of the TPS7A03 affords it higher bandwidth and so its transient performance is better, so if you do not need the low Iq of the TPS7A02 then I would recommend going with the TPS7A03 since it is cheaper and faster.
