BQ24105-Q1: Reverse Polarity and short circuit protection

Part Number: BQ24105-Q1

Hello TI,

 Could you please confirm that

Is thee short circuit protection at the out of the charging Vccout and GND

Second, What will happen if i connect reverse battery to the out.

  • Hi,

What do you mean short circuit protection of charging VCC and GND? Are you referring to if the battery terminals are shorted? In such a case, there is an internal cycle-by-cycle limit current limit, which sense current across the HSFET, and will turn off the HSFET quickly to cut off the conduction path to the battery. It will also monitor the measured VBAT voltage, and when this voltage decreases below VSHORT, it will charge the shorted battery at a very low safe charging current of ISHORT.

Reverse battery can damage the IC. There is no inbuilt protection for this, and you will need external solution. You can look at this app note: www.ti.com/.../slva139.pdf
