UCC5870-Q1: AI* input RC filter for IGBT temp sensing through integrated temp diode

Part Number: UCC5870-Q1

hi,

Customer would like to decrease the RC filter frequency to improve the noise filter performance (RC to be around few ms), understand higher R cause poor accuracy and higher C reduce the response time.

Is there any limitation for the capacitance value? i think if customer would like to make trade-off for sensing accuracy and response time, there should be no limitation for C because UCC5870 provides a current source output, no inrush current concern for cap charge. Let me know your thoughts, thanks.

  • Hi Dongbao,

That is correct. There is no limitation on the size of the capacitor that they can place on the AIx pins. The only thing the capacitor would do as you mention is change the response time since the large capacitor will take some time to charge up. Given that they will be using this for temperature sensing I don't believe there will be any issues wince temperature is slow changing signal.

    Best regards,
