BQ34110EVM-796: For Lead Acid Battery.(multi cell)

Part Number: BQ34110EVM-796
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: GPCCEDV

Hi Ti

I am using bq34110EVM-796 Evaluation Module connected as below.

Using this for Lead Acid Battery. (12V@ 12AH).

I had configured all the values in data memory of chip, using BQ studio.

After configuring i can get the 'Time to empty' and 'Average time to full' and other parameters.

Now below are my Queries

1) Why do i need the Learning Load?

2) What is the purpose of Learning Load?

3) If I disconnect the battery, when Relative state of charge is 0%, and if i re-connect the same battery its showing full charge as per below image? why it is show full charge and what should i do to get the previous profile.

4) How to choose Learning Load. for this bq34110EVM-796 Evaluation Module? is it ok if i use Fan (5W) as Learning Load?

  • Hello Ravi,

The learning load is for internal resistance calculation to estimate the EOS of the battery.

You can see in section 2.11.1.4 Learn Discharge Phase that the discharge should be high enough to get at least 5mV drop when the load is applied. If 5W causes over a 5mV drop it should be okay to use.

When you reset the CEDV gauge it will estimate the SOC with the internal voltage lookup table, it should've been generated when you used the GPCCEDV tool to find your coefficients. You can find the information in the TRM, section 2.7.10 Initial Battery Capacity at Device Reset.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
