LM5156: Maximum output voltage

Part Number: LM5156

Hi,

I have a question concerning the maximum output voltage of LM5156 IC.

On the link below, it says that Vout(max) is equal to 300V. On the other hand, using Webench Desinger maximum output voltage that can be chosen is 500V and for the following parameters design can be normally created:

Vin(min) = 48V, Vin(max) = 52V ; Vout = 410V, Iout = 0.05A.

Here is the link: https://www.ti.com/product/LM5156

So, can I use LM5156 for output voltages exceeding 300V?

Regards,

Mateo

  • Hello,

Thanks for reaching out. The maximum allowed output voltage depends on the maximum duty cycle that the device allows (this can be found in the datasheet of the device). Which topology are you considering for your application? As the output power is quite low, a boost + charge pump might be the best fit in this case (like for example figure 10-8 at page 32) for the output voltage you need. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,
    EM

  • Hi EM,

    Thanks for your help!

I am considering boost topology for my application. It is still in designing phase, so once it is finished and tested, I will provide you feedback regarding this question.
