BQ40Z50-R2: PRES related inquiries

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50

Hi, TI Support Team

The following inquiries have been received from customers.

- Is it possible to make the time from PRES signal recognition to battery voltage output longer than the present?

If you check the BQ40Z50-R2 Technical Reference, you will find the following.

"Polling of the PRES pin continues at a rate of once every 1 s."

- Is it possible to change the polling cycle of PRES to about 2s by changing the BQ40Z50-R2 register setting value?

- Is there a way to change the timing by adding a CAPACITOR to the PRES circuit?

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hello MJ,

I do not believe there is a way to change the polling frequency via register settings. But while you cannot change the polling frequency, I think the idea to add delay with the capacitor could be possible. However, I have never seen this done, so I don't have any experience with the implementation. If they have the BQ40Z50 EVM, there is a DNP cap on the PRES pin that could be used for testing this. The downside to using a capacitor is that it can increase both the rise and the fall time. So it is a good idea to check the other condition as well to see if it will cause issues.

    thanks,

    Alex M.
