TPS7A88: Reverse Current Protection

Part Number: TPS7A88

TI technical support.

Does this Dual Linear Regulator (TPS7A8801RTJ) require a diode from its output(s) to Input(s) to provide  'Reverse Current Protection'?

The Dual Linear Regulator inputs are fed from a switching regulator which has pull-up and pull-down FET drive on its outputs. Therefore the Dual Linear Regulator inputs are likely to have a connection to ground during power down.

Could the reverse current discharge (from the outputs to the inputs) during power down damage the Dual Linear Regulator?

Regards,

Christopher Heath

  • Hey Christopher,

No, the TPS7A88 does not have reverse current protection. Yes, there could be damage to the LDO during discharge state, but will not necessarily cause damage during power down.

If you add two diode from the output to the input, this will help with reverse current flow.

    Thanks,

    McKyla
