Hi!
Our team currently needs to use the BQ24800 as a constant voltage and current charger for our smart battery pack. We are using the BQ20z655-R1 in our battery pack application.
We are currently in testing phase. From what I understood from the BQ24800 datasheet, it is possible to program the device to output a specific charge current and voltage. Our equipment setup is based on a VIN of 12V and 5A, with only the battery pack connected as load to VBAT to see if the BQ24800 is able to supply these charging characteristics. Attempts to program Charge Voltage and Charge Current have not been successful so far. The only 'edits' that have been made is changing the registers of Charge Voltage and Charge Current.
What can we do to achieve this behavior?
We have also looked at the following document https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/sluaaf8, which states that smart chargers are essentially controlled by the host; which in our case is the BQ20z655-R1. The BQ20z655-R1 is at the moment non-functional, and we are therefore more focused on whether the BQ24800 is able to at least provide 8.4V and 5A constantly. The BQ20z655-R1 can be solved another day.
