[FAQ] TPS631000: advantages of TPS631000

Part Number: TPS631000

as the newest buck-boost converter of TI, what are the advantages of this device?

  • Advanced processes  TPS6310XX are built with TI’s new processes which can get smaller die-size with the same output capability and it will help to cut costs.

Smooth transition With more advanced control strategies, we can get more smooth transition between buck, buck-boost and boost mode, this means the output ripple will be much better than the previous buck-boost when Vin is close to Vout. Figure1 shows the output ripple with some previous buck-boost devices when Vin is close to Vout. Obviously, there is some unexpected rippler caused by unstable transition. As a comparison, Figure 8-21 in datasheet shows a clean transition of TPS631000 and without unexpected ripple.

Constant switching frequency For most buck-boost converter, switching frequency will be half the normal switching frequency when Vin is close to Vout but TPS631000 can almost keep its switching frequency constant  over all conditions. This will simplify your EMI design.
