Hi team,
Max Tj in de datasheet is specified at 150°C. However, the thermal shutdown temperature is also mentioned and it's 170°C. Thermal shutdown which is higher than absolute maximum specification seems to be suspicious.
Kind regards, Marc

Marc,
The 170C thermal shutdown is a for a fault or transient condition.
Thermal shutdown has some tolerance and hysteresis so it is set above 150C to account for these.
Hope this helps,

Hello Orlando,
I'm sorry, but 150°C is the absolute maximum temperature of the device.
I could relate to your answer when thermal shutdown was in between recommended maximum and absolute maximum, say around 145°C. But it's not.
Your answer suggests that thermal shutdown can be within a temperature region were damage to the device is likely.
Marc,
Getting to 170C thermal shutdown will not damage the device.
Like said before, if the Thermal shutdown was 150C then the 12C hysteresis would not re-enable the device until below 140C.
If theres variance on the shutdown setpoint then it could be lower.
We set it at 170C to account for these and allow the device to turn on at 150C.
