TPSM63606: Is it OK to use high current PM chip for low current application?

My application needs max 1.2A and normal 0.8A at 3.3V. The power management I selected is out of stock. I am wondering if it is ok to use this part that has 6A capability. what are the disadvantages to use the high current part for low current application? Thank you.

Hi Rong,

You an use the TPSM62602/3 instead as efficiency may be better at such light loads.

Lower efficiency is the main disadvantage as the inductor core loss is relatively high compared to the output power. I recommend going with the 2A part in the same module family. Also, if Vout < 6V, a lower cost option is the TLVM13620.
