BQ27531-G1: Cycle count is not resetting to 0 when new rechargable battery inserted in the device

Part Number: BQ27531-G1

Hello,

I am using BQ27531-G1 gas gauge. During the learn cycle, gauge learned cycle count=2 (Data Memory > Gas Gauging > State > Cycle Count 0 =2) in Bq studio. But before generating a golden image, I have changed the Cycle count 0 = 0 and then generated a golden image.

After performing some discharging and charging cycles, cycle count changed to 4 then I inserted new battery pack in the device but still cycle count is 4. Why it's not resets to 0 ?

Regards,

Janhavi Rane

  • Hello Janhavi,

When a pack is inserted, calculations for impedance are made and based on that the pack will be deemed new or not. If the values calculated from the new pack are too similar to the removed pack then the gauge will not deem the pack new and the profile from the removed pack will be kept. Information about the calculations can be found in section 7.1 of the TRM.

Additionally, do both packs used have the same chem id?

Could you please share the log of the cycles along with the .gg and .srec file for the configuration to probe any additional errors.

    Sincerely,

    Erik Cura

  • Hello Eric,

Thank you for the information. Both the packs which I'm using has same chem ID. Is their any way to reset the cycle count to 0 when new battery pack has inserted? or it resets 0 only when we program the gas gauge with default parameters?

    Here I'm attaching Golden Image.

  • Hello Janhavi,

After inserting a new pack you are able to change the cycle count in data memory. You can just manually change the value in the register.
