This topic is relevant to TPS6594-Q1 and LP8764-Q1 devices:
Our EVM’s can be used for I2C or SPI communication with PMIC’s that are connected to the board via specific headers. This is useful for interfacing with the Scalable PMIC’s GUI with an IC not having to be soldered an EVM. In order to set up an EVM for this kind of communication you can do the following:
First, remove the M/S Select jumper(s) so that all three pins are floating. Do not connect any power supply to VSYS or VCCA, these should not have a supply voltage:
Next, if using SPI communication, short the SPI_EN header. If using I2C, skip this step:
Lastly, connect the data lines and common ground to the target IC. For I2C only the SDA1 and SCL1 lines are necessary. For SPI, use the SDI, SDO, SCK, and CS lines:
From here, communicating with the target IC should be the same as communicating with the IC on the EVM. You can connect your computer via the USB-C port to communicate with the IC from the GUI.
