LM74720-Q1: LM74720-Q1 used in redundant battery power supply power supply

Part Number: LM74720-Q1

Hello,

I ‘m planning to use ideal diode controller (LM74720Q) +mosfet to replace :

  • D1 and D2 in the following schematic. The objective is charge the two batteries in (false)“parallel”.
  • - D3 and D4 are used to make a redundant power supply. The system will be powered by battery 1 or 2 depending on their state of charge. D3 and D4 are used to do a redundant power supply. The will system will be power by battery 1 or 2 depending of its state of charge.

Is it possible to use LM74720Q to manage this 2 functions?

Will we have problems when the battery voltage drops very quickly?

Best Regards.

Sylvain

  • Hi Sylvain,

Th key feature required in the functions is only Reverse current blocking.

    1. D1 and D2 are required to block circulating currents between Battery 1 and Battery 2
    2. D3 and D4 are used to achieve ORing between  Battery 1 and Battery 2 to load

So, yes LM74720-Q1 can be used in both the functions replacing D1, D2, D3 and D4
