BQ24210: BQ24210 -Charge Problem

Part Number: BQ24210

Hi Ti Team,

Our product is using BQ24210 as charging IC to charge battery up to 4.2V

Our customer encounter issue that they have 90% of our product not charging any current by 5V USB despite battery voltage is 3.9V

Circuit is enclosed for your reference.

:

Somehow we could repeat the problem today by plug-in battery of 3.92V and leave the device uncharged overnight.

It is able to charge the battery again by re-plug-in the battery However, the battery cannot be recharged by unplug and plug USB C power suppler.

It is suspected that the problem is caused by value of Vbus_dpm, As data sheet mentioned we should not set the Vbus_dpm lower than battery voltage.

We want to know in what way this will cause problems? What mode is the charger in when it is not able to charge?

  • Hi,

Because the problem is resolved by unplugging and re-plugging in the battery, I suspect that the device may be getting stuck in battery detect mode or that DPPM is preventing charging. As you stated, Vbus_dpm should be set higher that battery voltage so that current is not restricted from flowing to the battery.

If the problem persists after raising Vbus_dpm, I would suggest reading about the battery detect routine in the datasheet to see if this matches the behavior you are observing.

    Thanks,

    Jackson
