[FAQ] BQ24072T: What are the differences between the BQ24072T and the BQ24072?

Part Number: BQ24072T
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24072, BQ24075, BQ24075T, , BQ24079T, BQ24079

Hi,

Would you be able to share the differences between the BQ24072T and the BQ24072? Do these changes also apply to the BQ24075, BQ24075T, BQ24079 and BQ24079T?

  • Hi,

The differences between the BQ24072T and BQ24072 is the battery temperature sensing method. This is also the same for the BQ24075, BQ24075T, BQ24079, and BQ24079T.

The BQ24072, BQ24075, and BQ24079 use a current based battery temperature monitoring system at the TS pin. With an internal current source, current flows through the NTC and a voltage will be sensed based on the NTC resistance that will vary with temperature. If the voltage at TS is outside the range of VCOLD to VHOT, the device will suspend charging until the voltage falls within that range.

The BQ24072T, BQ24075T, and BQ24079T uses a voltage divider at the TS pin. There is no internal current source used so instead the adapter (voltage at VIN) is used in a voltage divider network that includes the NTC resistor. As the NTC resistance changes temperature, so will the voltage divider node that connects to TS. Similar to the non-T devices, if the voltage at TS is outside the range of VCOLD to VHOT, the device will suspend charging until the voltage is within that range.

You can find more information on adjusting the NTC temperature relation to VCOLD to VHOT in each datasheet:
