TPS25750: About pass-through mode by USB2ANY

Sorry for the duplicate question in the thread below.

However, I would be grateful if you could reply as soon as possible.

Our customer use USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 and USB2ANY.

However, they can’t read suitable register value.

Even if they use USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01,

is it possible to execute pass-through mode using USB2ANY?

By the way, they tried to read to REG0F_Charger_Control_0 Register of BQ25792 on USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01 by USB2ANY.

However, the read result is " 0x04 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 ".

This value is incorrect because resister default value is 0x12.

If USB2ANY can support pass-through mode, could you please let us know appropriate method?

So, we would like to know the cause of the abnormal.

We use ver7.0.3 but we have observed behavioral anomalies.

Is “Application_Customization_Tool ver7.0.3” normal?

If we generate a new configuration(bin file), should I request the creation of the bin file?

Hi Hide-san,

1. I edited the hex file to configure the I2C events corrects, however this is a difficult process and I do not recommend following this method.

2. There is a bug within GUI v7.0.3 that causes the PD controller to set up I2C communication incorrectly with the BQ25792.

3. We're currently working on a GUI update for v7.0.4 that will resolve this issue.

Is there a possibility that "ver7.0.5" will be released in the future?

We understand that it is best to have a design that can be updated EEPROM.

However, their application will not be able to update the EEPROM after mass production.

Therefore, we would like to know if there is a possibility of upgrading at this time.

And, if any your customers had the same problem and solved it, could you please let me know how to do it?

(For example, when update from ver7.0.3 to ver7.0.4.)

So, we would like to know if there is a method other than updating the EEPROM.

Hi Hide-san,

The version number from the tool won't affect the patch FW/binary that is loaded onto the EEPROM. v7.0.4 is the next release that will include the fix for I2C issue that the current GUI (v7.0.3) introduces. Binaries generated from both versions of the GUI will have the same patch version/FW, the only difference is how the GUI generates the I2C binary.

As mentioned before, we're working on a fix for the online GUI and once v7.0.4 is available, the FAQ page will be updated.

Hi Raymond-san,

I have one more question.

I understand that “the only difference is how the GUI generates the I2C binary.”.

Can I use the MCU to write the contents containing " Improvements (I2C binary etc.)" to the EEPROM?

So, I'm looking for a way to change setting(I2C binary etc.) without circuit changes when GUI version changes in the future.

Hi Hide-san,

Updates to the GUI shouldn't require any physical circuit change. GUI version 7.0.4 (once it's release) addresses the bug regarding I2C events and will fix the necessary binary generated from the GUI.

Hi Raymond-san,

I am sorry for confusing you.

Currently, they use Aardvark to write the GUI settings to EEPROM.

However, If there is a GUI upgrade after mass production, they would like to change the EEPROM from the MCU with the following configuration.

(So, don't want to change their own circuit.)

Can I use the MCU to write GUI setting to the EEPROM?

I guess that it is difficult to deal with this but could you please let us know if you have any idea?

Hi Hide-san,

Yes that is possible, however it would take more time since there would be more I2C write happening.

Is it not possible for the MCU to store the binary configuration and act as the flash memory (EEPROM) in their case?

Hi Hide-san,

GUI version 7.0.4 addresses the I2C bug when generating the binary configuration. Once released, any binaries generated from the GUI will properly configure the TPS25750 to handle "pass-through mode" correctly.

Our customer would like to create new bin file so need correct bin file.

However, "GUI ver7.0.4" has not been released yet.

Could you please generate their setting bin file?

This version addressed and fixed the I2C bug and can now be used to configure the CHG EVM correctly!
