TPS62826: Maximum Vout

Part Number: TPS62826

Hi Team,

My customer would like to understand why Vout is limited to 4,0V?

They would like to facilitate 4.2Vout at 2Anominal (~2.5Amax), at 5Vin.

In paragraph 8.3.3 it is mentioned "If the output voltage level comes close to the input voltage, the device enters 100% mode.". Which my customer reads as 4.2V might seem possible.

Could you explain the 4.0Vout limitation and what the potential performance degradation could be of going for 4.2Vout?

Best regards,

Frank

  • Hi Frank,

For the TPS6282x family, the adjustable output voltage range is 0.6 V to 4 V. This is the range that has been tested and validated for this device. Beyond the d/s spec, we cannot guarantee the device performance or electrical characteristics.

However, it is possible to configure 4.2Vout, 2.5A Iout for 5Vin. The switching frequency will be higher compared to typical scenario. Therefore; the losses will be more and the efficiency maybe impacted. The customer will also have to test and confirm all the specs like transient response, Iq, etc if it meets his application requirements.

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have further questions.
