TPS2561: Auto-retry function with different current limit

Hi Sir,

I tested TPS2561 with different current limit setting and got abnormal behavior when over current occur.

For 1.4A current limit, TPS2561 is auto retry when OC occur; but for 1A current limit setting, TPS2561 isn't auto retry.

Both test are using the same TPS2561 part and just change R_limit value.

Please see the waveform and schematic below.

I have no idea why the different result with the R_limit value.

Would you help explain it?

Hi Amos,

When OC occurs, TPS2561 will limit the current to Ios untill overload condition is removed or the device enter thermal cycle.

For 1.4A, the device may enter thermal cycle, but 1A cannot have the device into thermal cycle.

Did you test the package temperature?

I understood, T_case is over 120dC for 1.4A OC occurs and about 100dC for 1A OC occurs.
