TPS62135: Figure 33, 34

Hi team,

Datasheet figure 33/34 states maximum available Iout is 4A at Vin=12V/Ta=25C. But my customer says TPS62315EVM can't output 4A(up to around 3.5A) and hits thermal shutdown when Vin=12V, Ta=23C and Vout=3.3V and 5V.

BU also confirmed the EVM can't output 4A and hits thermal shutdown as discussed in this internal thread.

How data of figure33/34 are collected?

(Other high current rating inductor was used? or were there airflow?)

Hi Shota,

When I recreated this condition on the bench at Vin=12V, Vout=5V, Iout=4A. It took around 5-10minutes with Ta~25degC for the IC to hit thermal shutdown.

It isn't clear how the data was measured for the EVM's, like how long each operating point was held before the measurement was taken.

However, the details given in the EVM user guide say that there were no modifications (same inductor used).

If helpful for the customer, I can modify the EVM with the better inductor and see how it affects performance.

Could you please modify the EVM with higher rating inductor?

It should be helpful for not only my customer but also other customers.

If EVM with better inductor can't output 4A continuously, I think we should remove/modify figure31~35 for future customers...
