Some TPS62260 of our products heats up and consumes a lot of current(100mA more than normal product) .
Without C1, could the IC(TPS62260) fail? Our circuit doesn`t contains C1.

Hi Yoonsang,
Having C1 is not a requirement. Are some of the devices behaving normal (no extra current)? Can you share your schematics and also a scope shot of VIN, VOUT, SW and inductor current?
Best regards,
Varun
Hi Varun,
Thank you for your reply.
This is our schematics.

I have no scope shot, but VIN = 5V, VOUT & SW = 1.8V and Current consumption is under 100mA.
In TPS62260 Datasheet, it is mentioned as
.
According to your answer, C1 is not required...I am confused with that.
Best regards,
Yoon-sang
Hi Yoon-sang,
C1 is required when you want to have a good load transient response. C1 usually helps improve the control loop response. It is unlikely C1 is the cause of the higher input current here. The only way C1 could be the cause here is if the loop is unstable and VOUT is oscillating. The input currents can then be higher.
Can you disconnect the 10K resistor (R4000) and everything after C4000 on the 1.8V rail and measure the input current?
We would need the scope shot of VIN, VOUT, SW and inductor current to get an idea of the load current and analyze device behavior.

Varun
Thanks for reply.
I asked 2 failure ICs for decapsulation-analysis to an analytic company and below the result of analysis.
Because of not being a capacitor, is it possible to happen the problem(Pin1 : Leakage curve, Pin5 : Short curve)...?

Please Reply,

Yoon-sang
Hi Yoo-sang,
I apologize for the delay in response. Varun is out of office since last few weeks and we somehow missed this thread. I really apologize for the inconvenience.
Regarding your request, I do not think without C1, the IC would fail. Can you provide the waveforms as Varun mentioned in his post earlier? It would help us better analyse the issue.
Thanks!
Best regards
