PTD08D210W: FLT Fault

Part Number: PTD08D210W

Hi,

Good Day.

On one of customer's legacy PCBs, they use a combination of PTD08D210WACT and UCD9248PFC. They build 11 PCBs recently but 2 of them have a 'FLT' fault on one rail (see System Monitor.PNG attached),

the status does not give much information either (see Status.PNG).

FF_A pin of PTD08D210WACT connected to FAULT-1A pin of UCD9248PFC is low.

Could you please let us know how to debug this issue? Please advise. Thank you very much.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

If the fault pin is low, it either means no fault was ever detected by PTD08D210, or a fault was detected but was reset/cleared by a following PWM cycle from the controller (UCD9248PFC).

The UCD9248PFC controller is the one that manages this fault mechanism.
I believe that UCD9248PFC should stop sending PWMs to the PTD08D210WACT as soon as a fault is detected.
So the fault can be latched, and the fault will not be reset/cleared without the user acknowledging that the fault was noticed.

It is also possible that the fault at the controller side was triggered by noise.
You should not only check the status of fault pin after the fault report, but try to capture any rising edges on this pin after the start up.

If no rising edges on the fault pins are captured, that may mean that the controller is seeing a false fault reported due to noise.
Please also discuss this with the UCD9248PFC group, they may be have an option in the controller that could be set differently using the GUI.
