LMZ21701: Headroom needed for a 6V output

Hey team,

I have a customer evaluating the LMZ21701 for their application and they are trying to use this module in the following use-case:

Input voltage: 7V

Output range needing to support: 0.9V - 6V

Output current needing to support: Up to 1A

Will a 7V input voltage be sufficient enough to drive a 1A load at 6V? What amount of headroom is needed to support a certain output voltage?

Hi Matt,

LMZ21701 is pretty similar to TPS82150. I run Pspice simulation and it should support 7Vin, 6Vout and 1A load current. However, the integrated power inductor DCR for LMZ21701 is typ 92mohm which is 3x inductor DCR of TPS82150 (33mohm). So TPS82150 may give customer more headroom. Plus, LMZ21701 is older than TPS82150. We would recommend TPS82150. Please order an EVM to do real test.
