TPS65987D: Application Customization Tool

Part Number: TPS65987D

Hi,

We are planning to configure TPS65987D with FRS enabled for our application.
We could find the following link which explains how to do it using Application Customization Tool.

https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvub60c/slvub60c.pdf?ts=1659592130057&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fproduct%252FTPS65987D

As we are trying to avoid procurement delays of Aardvark we have a few questions

Is it necessary that we use Aardvark or can we try to get hold of some generic USB to I2C device that can be used with the GUI tool?
or can we develop the binary file using the GUI tool and later use some micro-controlle development boards to perform  I2C communication and flash the image.
Also could you please inform if there are any hardware requirements to boot this configuration by default.

Regards,
George.

  • Hi George,

I believe you can use other USB to I2C device, such as TIVA. The 987D can be flashed using FTDI, TIVA, and Aardvark through the Customization Tool. Let me confirm with my team and get back to you.

  • Hi Raymond Lin,

Thank you for the information. We could get hold of the Aardvark tool. We could use it to connect to the PD controller using I2C. We generated a configuration file for the same and initiate SPI flash write. Unfortunately, we are getting an error SPI FLASH to Device Failed Verification just like the one described here.  Do you know any possible reasons other than what is already discussed in the post?

    Thanks and regards,

    Delish

  • Hi Delish,

Can you try and see if the PD controller is visible through the Adapter tab on the Configuration Tool? Sometimes the adapter type or some other information is incorrect, causing connection issues.

    Regards,

    Raymond Lin

  • Hi Raymond Lin,

I think the issue was mainly caused because we where trying to configure the flash through Application Customization tool. When we generate a full flash bin file using TI Application Customization tool and use the config flash GUI tool along with Aardvark (SPI lanes) we are able to flash the bin file directly into the SPI flash.

Thank you for the support you extended..

    Best Regards,
    George
