LM61480: LM61480 to a Vout of 0.95V

Part Number: LM61480

I was planning on using the LM61480 for the 5V to 0.95V, but it appears that part can only go down to 1V because of the comparator.  Anyway you can drop to 0.95V.  That rail is 6A, so I liked going with the 8A part (61480).  The 62816 or the 62867 are maxed out at 6A, but could go to 0.95V.   I’m not a fan of pushing a part to its limits, unless you believe there is no issue as long as the inductor can handle the current?  Is there an 8A version of the 62816/62867, which is available for sample?  Or is there a way to drop the Vout to 0.95V with the LM61480?

Thank you,

Erik

  • Hi Erik,

What is your input voltage? Is your application a 5Vin to 0.95Vout condition? If so I would suggest using a low voltage converter.

  • Yes, it is 5V.   And I need about 5.8A.  I have been guaranteed samples of the TPS62816Q, however this is a 6A device.  Would 5.8A be driving the 62816 too hard?  Is there a 8A version of the TPS62816?

  • Hi Erik,

Given that your input voltage is 5V, I think using the LM61480 Wide Vin part may not be most applicable, in addition to the reference voltage of most of the Wide-Vin converters are above the 0.95V that is needed for your application.

I would suggest creating another E2E post for the TPS62816 so the appropriate apps engineer can address your question. Perhaps there might be a newer device that the Low Vin apps engineer can suggest here.
