TPS650330-Q1: GPIO input voltage

Part Number: TPS650330-Q1

Hi team,

In the datasheet absolute maximum ratings table, the maximum voltage of GPIO is 5.5V. not "5.5V or VIO+0.3V whichever is lower".

Is it okay that we input 3.3V even if the VIO voltage is 1.8V? Of course we set the GPIO as input.

Regards,

  • Hi,

What is driving the GPIO pin in this application?

This approach is acceptable if the driver is capable of sourcing less than 0.5 mA. At higher currents, there will be leakage from 3.3 V to VIO.

    Thanks,

    Gerard

  • Gerard-san,

    Got it, thanks.

This is not a request from my customer but, could you discuss with your team for updating the Abs max rating not only for TPS6503xx but also some hero products in your team?

For example, LP8756x has "(VANA+0.3V) with 6V maximum" but, LP8764 has only "6V".

I think many guys will misunderstand that these IO pin can withstand in 6V input regardless the VIO voltage.

    Best Reghards,

  • Hi Hirai-san,

This specification is dependent on the device, as some may have designed in measures to prevent leakage/latch-up/other issues, while others may have not. Datasheets go through many rounds of internal reviews and approvals before release. As such, revisions are made on a case-by-case basis. For each case, the device issue due to the current datasheet should be clearly demonstrated, such as damage observed without exceeding the abs max ratings.

    Thanks,

    Gerard
