CSD18532KCS: Amplify PWM Signal

Part Number: CSD18532KCS
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD18543Q3A, , CSD18541F5

Hi Team,

A customer would like to amplify a 3.3V PWM signal into a 36V PWM signal.

  1. Can you suggest the right device for the following requirements?
    1. In: 300kHz PWM at 3.3V coming from MCU
    2. Out: 300kHz PWM at 36V, 25mA, turn-on peak at 150mA for <0.1us
  2. What device would you suggest, if you think an integrated solution would be better suited?

Thank you,

Franz

  • Hello Franz,

Thanks for the inquiry. There are multiple TI FETs that may work. I’m thinking a 60 V SMT device like the CSD18543Q3A could work in the application. It’s much smaller and lower cost than the CSD18532KCS which is in a TO220 package. Another alternative might be the CSD18541F5 but it has a higher RG which can be a problem at high switching frequency. Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,

    TI FET Applications

  • Hello Franz,

Following up on my earlier response, we do not have any N-channel FETs >=40V with Rds(on) specified at VGS = 3V (or lower). Both the CSD18543Q3A and the CSD18541F5 are only rated down to VGS = 4.5V. I know this is low current but I am not sure if either of these FETs will perform as desired and TI cannot guarantee on resistance at VGS < 4.5V. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

    Best Regards,

    John
