UCC28C45-Q1: difference between PWM controller and flyback controller

Part Number: UCC28C45-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5155-Q1, LM3481-Q1, UCC28C45, UCC28C55, LM5155, LM3481

Hi Expert,

Our customer is developing OBC/DCDC platform. I see both UCC28C45-Q1 PWM controller and LM3481-Q1 or LM5155-Q1  flyback can be used as flyback topology. I want to know difference between them since they can achieve the function. Could you please kindly help? Thanks.

  • Hello Elec,

The UCC28C45 (or UCC28C55) is a low-cost, 8-pin solution that is available from TI, and other vendors (second source).  The minimum operating voltage for the UCC28C4x family is 6.6 V.

The LM3481 and LM5155 are a bit larger (10 and 12 pins) that provide more functionality but cost a bit more.  These devices have operating voltages down to 2.97 V.

    Regards,

    Eric
