Hello Jason,
The bq4050 is a gauge which uses the CEDV algorithm. Whereas bq40z50 and bq40z80 are gauges which use impedance track algorithm.
The bq40z50 can handle from 2-4 cells and single cell. The bq40z80 handles 2-4 cells and more than 4 cells.
