BQ24298: Question on OTG/PMID

Part Number: BQ24298
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24295

I am trying to use BQ24298 to replace BQ24295.

  • PMID on BQ24298: is it not intended to provide a power to another device?
  • When the OTG enable bit is selected (REG01 Bit 5), does it keep the device from getting charged from VBUS?
    • REG08 bits7/6/5/4 always show 1100 (OTG & Not Charging)
    • In the case of BQ24295, once the VBUS is powered from USB adapter, those bits change immediately
  • I have noticed the PMID is not described in the Pin description (Section 6).  Is the PMID pin not intended to serve a function?

Thank you,

Andrew

  • Hi Andrew,

    • The PMID on the BQ24298 is used when on reverse boost mode operation. When operating on forward mode, your system should be connected to the SYS pin.
    • Yes, the device will either be on boost mode or charging. VBUS needs to be on sleep mode (VBUS < VBAT + VSLEEP) in order to activate boost mode operation.
    • Thanks for pointing it out the BQ24298 is missing the PMID pin details, we will fix this on next release. You can refer to BQ24295 for the description. In both a 20uF is recommended to be added to the pin.

    Best regards,
