BQ79612-Q1: BQ7721603 and BQ79612-Q1

Part Number: BQ79612-Q1

I would like to configure a 24-series BMS using two BQ7721603 and two BQ79612-Q1.

How should it be configured?

Do you have a reference circuit?

  • Hi Kentaro,

Can you explain why you would need both devices? Why not use just one or the other? Or maybe please clarify the feature set you are needing these devices to perform for this BMS.

    Regards,

    Taylor

  • Hi Taylor,

It will be a BMS for the power storage system.

Two devices are used to achieve double protection when the BQ79612-Q1 stops working for some reason.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Kentaro,

Ok please be aware BQ79612-Q1 is capable of ASIL-D Functional Safety rating for communications. And you could also just double up BQ79612-Q1 to avoid designing with two different monitors but up to you. Otherwise we do not have any reference example for doubling up on monitors that do the same functionality. It would be up to the system designer to determine how to avoid conflict with the two devices. My guess would be to have them both connect to the cells and have entirely separate circuits/gnd planes/ or pcbs. And just a few things that come to mind initially would be to be careful of handling the fault flagging to the MCU from both devices and avoid cell balancing simultaneously.

    Regards,

    Taylor
