BQ76200: Secondary BQ76200 as a Load Switch on Output of Battery Pack

Part Number: BQ76200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76930, BQ78350-R1, BQ76952, BQ34Z100-G1, TIDA-010030

Hello,

I currently use a BQ76200 in a 7s design along with the BQ76930 and BQ78350-R1.  I have a scenario where I need to turn the output ON/OFF based on the device connected, to allow or not allow charging and discharging.  I.e. if a certain voltage is measured (through maybe a comparator), that is an appropiate device to allow discharging, or an appropiate charger to allow charging.

My initial thoughts were maybe a second set of back-to-back FETs after the normal CHG and DSG FETS controlled by the BQ76200, with a comparator that turns them on and off.  It would be nice to use the same CHG/DSG FETs and just have a secondary circuit drive them, but I think we could get errors that way from the AFE, maybe going into a failure that it has lost control of the FETs?

So first, can we use the same set of CHG/DSG FETS and just have a secondary circuit drive the enable lines on the BQ76200?  Or maybe the circuit would just disable instead of enable.

Or second, can a secondary BQ76200 be used on the output to simply turn the FETS ON/OFF to allow current flow in either direction (charge/discharge)?  Basically use this part as a load switch where I'd tie the CHG and DSG enable lines together just to make use of the back-to-back FETs with the Charge Pump to drive N-FETs?

Thank you in advance for your advise

Mike
