Hi All,

I have question about TPSM41625.

A customer is considering using the TPSM41625 with a 5V output and a 50A load current.

For 5V output, load current up to 22A, so is 50A load current possible with 3pcs TPSM41625?

TPSM41625 (17A) x3pcs = 51A

Or, what other DCDC converters with built-in inductors do you recommend?

Hello Ishiwata,

The TPSM41625 is stackable with 2 devices. This information is found in section 7.3.7 of the datasheet pictured below.

Edit: This device will not be able to support 50A. I will provide some recommendations for alternatives and update you here.

Hi Ishiwata,

Since TPSM41625 can not stack 3 devices, I recommend to use TPS543C20A which has a higher current limit and the same functionality.

Thank you for your recommendation of products.
The customer wants Buck converters (integrated switch) because they want to reduce the mounting area.
What Buck converters (integrated switch) products do you recommend?

Hello Ishiwata,

If a Buck module (integrated inductor and switch node) is needed, then I believe the best part for your case is TPSM8D6C24.
This module is fully capable of handling currents 50A and higher.

Thank you for your reply.
The customer specifications are 12V input voltage, 5V output voltage, and 50A load current.
However, TPSM8D6C24 cannot be used because the output voltage is up to 3.6V.

Are there any TI products that can configure a load current of 50A with an output voltage of 5V?

Good catch. The best module for this application is TPSM8D6B24

This can handle up to 5.5V and 50A in 2-phase. It can also be stacked to increase the current limit further.

We are looking into why is it showing not available.

You can use the TPSM8D6C24EVM-2V0 directions for converting the two output EVM into a 2-phase EVM, or connecting two evaluation boards together to create a 3 or 4 phase solutions.

Is the TPSM8D6B24 EVM adjustable to a single 50A and 5V output?

Did you introduce the guide of TPSM8D6C24EVM-2V0 in the sense that it can be evaluated as an alternative to TPSM8D6B24?
As for the TPSM8D6C24, it does not meet customer specifications as it cannot output 5V.

No, I attached the application note with directions on how to convert the TPSM8D6C24EVM-2V0 evaluation module from a 2-output to a Single Output 2-phase because the TPSM8D6B24EVM-2V0 uses the same layout and can be converted from 2-output to a 2-phase following the same procedure.

Follow the instructions in Section 1 (Page 2-3) on the TPSM8D6B24EVM-2V0 to convert it to 2-phase operation. To set the output voltage to 5V you can:

1) Connect the board to a Computer using the USB-TO-GPIO2 adapter

2) Use the FUSION Power Designer Software connect to the TPSM8D6B24 device

3) With the Control Pin held low (output disabled)

change VOUT_SCALE_LOOP to 0.125

Change VOUT_COMMAND to 5.0V

Change the VSEL_A resistors to select 5.0V (12.1kΩ to AGND - R22 , 1.87kΩ to BP1V5 - R16)

R22 and R16 are on the backside of the PCB
