TPS763: PIN4 NC/FB capacitor

Hello,

I have seen in the schematic of the ADS1232REF that PIN4 of the TPS763 is connected to a 10nF capacitor.

This is not documented in the datasheet.

1. Is it allowed to connect a capacitor and if so (which I assume) what values are allowed?

2. Are there any advantages or disadvantages if PIN4 is connected to a capacitor?

    Hi Tim,

    Here the pin 4 is labeled as a NR/ADJUST pin, which would mean that for the adjustable version, it would be an adjust pin, and for a fixed version it would be a noise reduction pin, in this Orderable Part Number TPS76350DBV, it would be a fixed 5.0V output so the pin would be a noise reduction pin as this is a fixed out OPN. If the device has a noise reduction pin, we do recommend capacitors up to 100nF attached between the pin and ground.

    However on the current TPS763 devices, Pin 4 is a NC/FB. The adjustable devices still have a FB pin, called Adjust in the reference, however the fixed versions do not have an NR pin connection. It is an NC, no connection. Tying this to a capacitor will not have any adverse effects upon the device performance, but there is a thermal advantage if pin 4 is tied to ground. The recommendation is to tie pin 4 to GND (it can also be left floating).
